O Cazaquistão, a Hungria e a China vão construir um terminal intermodal em Budapeste
Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), Hungary’s LAC Holding, and China’s Xi’an Free Trade Port Development and Operation Co. recently signed a memorandum of cooperation in the transport and logistics sector. The agreement was finalized in Budapest during the official visit of Kazakhstan President Tokayev to Hungary on November 19. As part of the agreement, the three parties will establish an intermodal terminal in Budapest capable of handling thousands of standard containers. KTZ emphasized that Budapest’s well-developed transport network would facilitate intermodal cargo movement across Europe. The new terminal is expected to increase the number of container trains running between China and Europe, including those using the Caspian Sea route.
Furthermore, KTZ, Azerbaijan’s SK-AIH Investment Fund, Baku Port, and Xi’an Free Trade Port have recently entered into another cooperation agreement. Their goal is to work together to develop an intermodal freight terminal at the Port of Alat in Azerbaijan. KTZ has emphasized that the success of this project is due to the suitable land provided by Azerbaijan, as well as the infrastructure improvements such as berths and terminal facilities. The main objective of this collaboration is to increase container train traffic between China and Europe along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). This will be achieved by enhancing hub capacity and reducing delivery times, transport costs, and transshipment delays. The new terminal at Alat is set to include a general cargo area, a 5,000-square-meter warehouse complex, and a container yard capable of accommodating over 1,000 containers.
