US Customs to Tighten Import Regulations

Starting January 11, 2025, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will tighten oversight of imported goods. For shipments over $800, purchased by the same recipient from different channels and arriving in the U.S. or declared for import clearance on the same day, CBP will enforce stricter examination procedures. This could lead to U.S. Customs temporarily detaining goods. It may also require paying import taxes or submitting customs declarations.

These changes aim to strengthen the U.S.’s import oversight. They ensure compliance with import regulations. This stricter review will affect some individual and commercial shipments. It may cause delays and higher costs for importers.
